Mrs. Brown was born on December 11, 1917, in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Florence Bostic Brown was the youngest child of the late James Bostic and Florence Wigfall Bostic.
Mrs. Brown was an honor graduate of Laing High School in Mt. Pleasant, Avery Normal Institute in Charleston and Allen University in Columbia, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Julia Bostic Simmons and her brother, Mr. William “Sonny” Bostic.
After celebrating her 95th birthday, Mrs. Brown peacfully slept away to heavenly worship on Sunday morning, December 16, 2012.
Mrs. Brown was a teacher in Charleston County Schools. In 1983, Mrs. Brown retired after 42 years in the classroom – the longest record of service in the Charleston County School District. Over her career, Mrs. Brown received numerous accolades for her teaching accomplishments, and recently was honored as one of Charleston’s Legendary Teachers by the Women’s Resource Project.
Memories of Mrs. Brown will be cherished by her daughter, Rosalind R. Rivers; granddaughter, Faith Rivers James, Esq. and her husband Perry James; granddaughter, Angel Payton-Harmon; great-grandchildren, Haley and Terence Harmon, Jr.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Alice Bostic and a host of nieces and nephews.
